No-Salt Seasoning Mix

Back in the day, I collected recipes from newspapers and magazines and stashed them in a drawer or box fully intending to try each one.   But looking for a specific recipe with specific ingredients when you need to make something now is a daunting task.

My daughter needled me until I sorted through them and put the “keepers” in a binder.  She’s one smart cookie, that daughter.

Right before Christmas I was searching for recipes to make for gifts.  This caught my eye.

Our son has high blood pressure…so does my husband.  So does our daughter’s boyfriend (whom we love like a son).  Truth be told, we could all do with less sodium in our diets.

No-Salt Seasoning Mix
(Makes 1/3 cup)

2 tbsp. garlic powder
2 tsp dried thyme
2 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. smoked paprika
2 tsp celery seed
1 tsp. ground white pepper
1 tbsp. ground mustard
2 tsp. lemon pepper
Mix and store in a a covered container.  Will keep for 3 months in a dry spot.

It’s a keeper.  We had chicken tenders for dinner which I prepared using this seasoning and we both declared it a success.  I simply mixed 2 Tablespoons of the No Salt Seasoning in with 1 cup of all purpose flour, dredged the chicken tenders in the mixture before cooking them.

I made a LOT of this No Salt Seasoning for holiday gifts…got a dozen or so of these sweet jars at our local dollar store.

I typed tags on heavy parchment paper and tied them around the neck of the jar with rafia and tucked them in with the packages we mailed.

We also made Spicy Guinness Mustard, a fabulous recipe from  Saveur.  Yum…a huge hit with everyone!
